Ringing snare problem

I recently purchased a used DW set, with a DW maple (ply) snare. It rings a
lot. I have been trying to eliminate it, with limited luck. Any suggestions
would be appreciated. I switched to an Aquarian Focus-X head, and am using a
ring on top. The snare-side is the original DW (Remo) clear head. Should I
try changing this head also, or the snare (a 20 strand metal)?

Thanks

Is it a ringing (overtone) when you hit the drum or a buzzing of the snare
strands.
Ringing is usually more prominent with metal drums.
I would venture to say that your bottom head is too tight. Release the
snare strainer and loosen the lugs on the bottom head a 1/16 of a turn each
until the ringing diminishes. You may also want to check the hardware on the
drum for any loose or broken pieces.
