Hello - I am a bassist - yet I have a couple questions regarding drummers
and practicing.

I know a drummer who says he can learn a song by listening to it without
'practicing' it on his kit.

My questions to this group is:
Is this really practicing?
Is this guy a drummer -or- just someone who plays the drums?

Paul,

I have played drums for over 10 years now. I can't read music and can
generally get a basic feel for a song by listening to it. However,
practicing the song is always essential because personally I do not feel
that it is whether you as the drummer know the song, but how well the
music meshes with the other musicians and that is something only
practice together can bring. Music is about everybody coming together
and bringing what they have and making something more out of it.
